While there are a variety of sourcing styles that you can choose to use for your project, Chicago style is great to use on academic essays or research projects. The one advantage of this type of bibliography is that it is often simple to figure out how to make a bibliography in Chicago style. When you are in school, you will likely be told what style to use and your professor will teach you how to make a bibliography in Chicago style. However, if you find that you need to make a Chicago style bibliography outside of school, you may have some difficulty. Here, you will find some basic information on how to make a bibliography in Chicago style.

Referencing One Author

The first thing that you need to determine is how many authors that you have with the work that you are sourcing. If you only have one author it is good to start with the last name of the author, followed by their first name. After these two things you will want to add the title of the publication along with the city that the work was published and the publisher and the year.

Referencing Two Authors

If you need to reference two authors you will use much of the same thought process as you would with just one author when you are learning how to make a bibliography in Chicago style. You will put the first and last name of one author and then do the same thing with the second author. Usually you can just list them the way that they show up on the book, since there is usually a reason why the authors are listed the way that they are. The rest of it will be listed the same as with one author.

Chapter References

If you have the name of the particular chapter that you used in your research you will also need to put this in your source. The chapter name will come right before the name of the publication. You will also need to remember to put the word “in” between the chapter title and the title of the publications.

Journals

You can also add in the title of the journal that you used. It will also come before the title of the publication but you do not need to add the word “in” between the two. If you have the information it is a good idea to put in the edition number of the journal.

When Found

It is a good idea to add in when you found the information that you used. You can let the reader know the month and the year when you found the publication so that they know how recent the search was done. If you have a web address for the information, this is also a good place to put it.
